Santerno: continues its expansion into international markets

A supply agreement worth 13 million Euros for the "Kathu Solar Facility", the most...

A supply agreement worth 13 million Euros for the "Kathu Solar Facility", the most important photovoltaic field in South Africa
Imola, 11 December 2012 – Elettronica Santerno, the Carraro Group company specialising in power electronics, has concluded with WBHO Building Energy an important agreement for the supply of an integrated system of inverters and components for one of the largest photovoltaic plants (81 megawatts) currently under construction in the entire African continent.
This agreement, worth 13 million Euros, follows only a few days after the recent start up of the supply contract for one of the largest solar fields in the world which is under construction in the United States.
"With this further major contract, Elettronica Santerno today has a 2013 order backlog of 40 million Euros, representing almost the entire turnover of the company in 2012. – commented Enrico Carraro, Group Chairman – This represents an excellent starting point for next year, which envisages strong growth in turnover compared to the current year. This increase in turnover, combined with restructuring actions already undertaken, will at the same time lead to a significant improvement in terms of margins".
"Today, Santerno products have what it takes to be implemented where there is a market. Both in terms of sales network as well as Research and Innovation, we have a clear vision which we are proving in practice. Also thanks to these references our competitive position is showing a marked improvement at the international level" concluded Enrico Carraro.
The new South African plant will be built near Kathu, one of the main mining towns of the Northern Cape province. A particularly difficult environment in terms of altitude, radiation and temperature, for which Elettronica Santerno will provide inverters which have already demonstrated solid reliability in harsh environments such as in Tibet or Gujarat (India).
South Africa, as well as being the leading economy of the African continent, today represents a country with great development potential in the field of photovoltaics, thanks to a government roadmap which envisages that, in 2020, 42% of installed energy will come from renewable sources.

Santerno gets the green light to start the supply of the inverter systems for one of the largest solar projects in the world

The Mount Signal Solar Project 1, in Southern California, is a 265 MWp PV plant

San Francisco, November 26, 2012 – Santerno, the Carraro Group Business Unit specializing in power electronics, has received the green light to supply a complete energy conversion solution for the Mount Signal Solar project 1, in Imperial Valley in Southern California, one of the largest solar PV plants under construction in the world.
According to the terms of the agreement, Santerno will supply a series of 1.5 MW plug & play stations, complete with inverters, medium voltage transformers and remote control systems, for a total value of more than 25 million $.
“In addition to the economic importance of the agreement – commented Enrico Carraro, Chairman of the Carraro Group – this is a historic moment for our company entering the highly potential U.S. Utility Scale Market with a dedicated line of products which has already been appreciated by Santerno’s market leading partners in Europe over many years. The penetration of the U.S. market and other similar international initiatives confirm the global development plan of Santerno, with a strong focus on increasing its market share in the markets of tomorrow.”
“These kinds of excellent commercial agreements, along with the ongoing rapid development of the product portfolio further strengthen the position of Santerno in the global market and provide a solid foundation for further growth already in the short term”, concluded Enrico Carraro.
The “Mount Signal” Solar Project 1 is a 265MWp single-axis tracker solar PV project, under construction along the border of Mexico in Imperial County, California. The Mount Signal Solar project 1 will produce approximately 500 million kWh per year (equal to an annual consumption of 65,000 homes in San Diego, CA) and will save approximately 365,000 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the absorption of 15 million forest trees.
The acquisition of the Mount Signal Solar Project 1 represents an important recognition of the leadership of Santerno in its industry, leveraging the competence of its team and the entire Carraro Group in building solid relationships and gaining the trust of major customers worldwide.
