Carraro is a leading international group in the field of highly efficient and ecocompatible power transmission systems, with production premises in Italy, India, Argentina, China, Germany, Poland and the United States.
Established in the 1930s as a manufacturer of seeders and agricultural machinery, over the years the company broadened its range, gaining fame and becoming - from the middle of the last century onwards - one of the main Italian tractor manufacturers. Beginning in the 70s Carraro concentrated its core business elsewhere, specialising in components and rising to become one of the leaders worldwide in transmission systems for agricultural machinery and earthworks. Change is embedded in the Group's DNA: in accordance with market contexts it has been able to adapt its structure and review its own industrial footprint. Hence the phase of internationalisation in which, starting in the 90s, Carraro opened production premises in what were to become the so-called BRIC area countries.
Axles and transmissions are still the Group’s core business today, but for some time it has been moving towards evolved product typologies and new sectors. In fact on the one hand traditional products are achieving enhanced value through the contribution of new technologies: mechanics dialogues increasingly with electronics, taking the avenue of mechatronics. On the other hand the new frontier is represented by renewable energy solutions, such as the inverters for Elettronica Santerno’s photovoltaic and wind power systems.
The holding company Carraro SpA has increasingly taken on the role of strategic direction and the coordination of management and support services to which four distinct Business Units refer, each with a specific mission, with a different risk profile and targeted strategies.
